Candidates for the 2025 election are listed in order of receipt of their nomination form. Our bylaws limit the AAUW California Board of Directors to eleven (11) members, including officers, which are President, President-Elect, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Secretary, and Directors.
In 2025, we vote to fill five (5) positions (as well as to approve the Public Policy Priorities and to approve a dues increase):
- Two Co-President-Elect: three-year term 2025-2028 (one year as Co-President-Elect and two years as Co-President)
- Chief Financial Officer: two-year term 2025-2027 [Open]
- Two Directors: two-year term 2025-2027
- Note: While the call was made initially for three Directors, the number available was reduced by one because two candidates nominated together for Co-President-Elect positions. The Board of Directors is limited to eleven (11) members, as noted above.

The AAUW California voting period will begin on April 26, 2025 and will close on May 16, 2025. We provide every member the opportunity to vote electronically.
When the election period starts, each member will receive an email message containing a personal invitation to vote. There will be a link to click that will take you to the ballot. No password or code needs to be entered. Members who do not have a working email address will receive information via postal mail with information about how to vote.
Candidates

Sigrid Moranz – Co-President Elect
with Sharyn Siebert
(Three-year term 2025 – 2028)
In my role as President Elect and succeeding President my plans include increased work with the branches to help them sustain and increase membership and attract new leaders to support these branches. This past year our series “Volunteers First” has focused on changing the goal of leadership from “filling a position on the Board” to fulfilling the intrinsic passions of all members. We believe this pivot in approach will produce more engaged members, a more diverse membership and lead to expanded leadership participation. AAUW California is the largest state organization within AAUW. We represent over 25% of the membership and an equal representation in Funds donations, and we had more Five Star Branch Awards than any other state. Congratulations to our winning branches and to all who participated this year.

Sharyn Siebert – Co-President Elect
with Sigrid Moranz
(Three-year term 2025 – 2028)
My goal is to look at creative ways to enhance the branch outreach, while supporting our branches and their members. Thinking outside the box is something I do well, I have been told. Continuing the efforts in which I have been involved for over a decade, strengthening our organization in the 21st century, when we are significantly relevant, is my goal!

Gail Swain – Director
(Two-year term 2025 – 2027)
Continuing to support the AAUW-CA mission of providing programs, education and resources to the women of CA is more important than ever. We must continue to support our national organization as they help us protect women’s rights, voting rights, fair pay, civil rights, etc. I would like AAUW-CA to have a closer partnership with the State of California.

Bev Van Citters – Director
(Two-year term 2025 – 2027)
If I can provide leadership and encouragement to branches and members, I am willing to do so. I know and understand AAUW. Our 143-year-old association has some real challenges ahead. When I became president of the Glendale Branch, in their 100th year, A 95-year-old member reminded me that many women who came before had innumerable challenges. Together, we are strong and can overcome anything. We stand on strong shoulders.

Melissa Maceyko – Director
(Two-year term 2025 – 2027)
I hope to continue to expand on the work in which Amy Hom and I have already been engaged: passing meaningful legislation to bolster gender equity in California, providing members with tools for engaging in impactful political action, mentoring students through the Gender in Public Policy Internship, educating the wider public, and sharing the work of AAUW California broadly through new media platforms.

Amy Hom – Director
(Two-year term 2025 – 2027)
In this next two-year term as Co-Director of Public Policy together with Missy Maceyko, I hope to expand and build on the resources and infrastructure that we have put in place to support the branches in all the important public policy work that they are doing. I hope to expand on the success of the Public Policy Internship Program which we piloted this year, in order to reach more young, diverse people to join us and bring their energy and enthusiasm. And I hope to continue bringing the force of AAUW California to advance important legislation in order to make the state a better, safer, more equitable place for women and girls.
