AAUW celebrated its 140th Anniversary on November 17, 2021 with nearly 1,500 AAUW members across the nation joining in on Zoom. AAUW California was honored for its 100th anniversary and two branches were recognized for their long history: Fallbrook Branch for 75 years and the Poway-Penasquitos Branch for 50 years.
The highlight of the webinar was the interview of the 2021 Alumnae Recognition Awardee, Ngozi Okonoj-Iweala, Ph.D., Director-General of the World Trade Organization. Dr. Okonoj-Iweala, a 1977 International Fellow, is the first woman and the first African to lead the WTO. Our new AAUW CEO, Gloria Blackwell conducted a thoughtful and insightful conversation which involved a wedding dress and a recent book on women’s leadership co-authored by Dr. Okonjo-Iweala.
