Opportunities for Students in the College /University Partnership Program
Below are several areas in which AAUW has programs designed to teach, inspire and empower students:
Membership
Your institution can join AAUW and share membership benefits with the entire student body and faculty. Your institution is eligible to designate two representatives as part of the annual fee of $250. By becoming a member, you’re not only joining a community committed to our cause. You’re also directly funding our work to:
- Train millions of women to negotiate for higher salaries and benefits.
- Support state and local fair-pay legislation to ban the use of salary history in hiring, a practice that puts women at a financial disadvantage.
- Develop more women leaders through workshops and conferences.
Leadership
AAUW’s annual conference, The National Conference for College Women Student Leaders (NCCWSL), brings together more than 800 young women from around the country for two and a half days of leadership training, networking and inspiration. NCCWSL is a conference that brings together a diverse group of young leaders, most juniors and seniors, who are involved in various activities on their campuses. They are engaged in student government, academic organizations, social justice clubs, and advocate for political change. They are pursuing STEM, business and social services majors, demonstrating their commitment to breaking barriers in underrepresented fields. NCCWSL provides resources and support to help these young women grow personally and professionally. Nearly 500 colleges from 48 states have sent campus leaders to NCCWSL.
Women’s Economic Empowerment Initiative
Women today face significant challenges in salary negotiation, career advancement, and financial literacy. Despite progress, the disparity in pay and opportunity remains a hurdle, particularly for women of color. These systemic barriers not only affect individual women but our society as a whole. AAUW is proud to introduce our Women’s Economic Empowerment Initiative, a comprehensive program dedicated to equipping women with essential skills to thrive financially and build strong futures. Through our initiative, we offer:
- AAUW Work Smart: Know Your Value and Get Paid – Training for early and mid-career professionals on negotiating for fair salaries, better benefits, and advancement opportunities.
- AAUW Start Smart – AAUW Start Smart is specifically designed for college women entering the job market, teaching effective salary negotiation techniques to boost your confidence and negotiation skills.
- AAUW Money Smart – The AAUW Money Smart program is aimed at providing all women with the personal finance information they need to ensure their own financial security.
Workforce & Economic Security
When women get equal pay — and equal opportunity — they, their families and all of society will thrive. To get there, we need to embrace diversity, equity and inclusion. Women make up nearly half the U.S. workforce, and two-thirds of women are their family’s primary or co-breadwinner. Yet men continue to earn more money—and accumulate more wealth—than women do.
