Ten members of the AAUW Marin branch visited the Rosie the Riveter Museum in Richmond, California on July 12, 2024. Jeannie Gibson, one of the original “Rosies”, gave a fascinating talk about her personal experiences.
Approximately 6 million women entered the American workforce during World War II. They performed tasks that had always been done by men, yet met with condescension, unequal pay and harassment. After the war these women were urged to give up their jobs to returning veterans.
